Multi-tasking

Lot of us are proud of multi-tasking. Listening to music while working, singing in the shower, peeling onions when the oil is heating up - all these come naturally to many people. There are a few geniuses who can juggle 4 saucers while reciting a poem and simultaneously dance to a changing tune. Unless you are one such a genius, science doesn't recommend you to multi-task while driving.

Watch this video from New York Times:

The focus of these studies is to prove that it is necessary to have full (100%) attention on the road when you are behind the wheel. It is worth the caution.

If someone tries to multi-task whendriving on the highway and hits the median/rams into the side wall, they lose valuble time, money, health - in the worst case their life. To be very harsh and probably inhumane, one can go to the extent of saying that the driver deserved the ill-fate as s/he chose to risk it. However, it is very unfair to the other drivers on the road.

This is why the self-proclaimed geniuses who chose to multi-task when driving should be brought to justice. Whoever wants to be exempt from this law should pass a mandatory multi-tasking test when applying for his/her driver's license. The game on the NYTimes website should sure be a good test!!

Nostalgic

Recently, I was thinking about our days at D15, espescially the late night food at the eatery near the college main gate. The parottas, dosas, omlettes, half-boiled and full-boiled eggs, the sound of the 'chef' making egg-parotta, the divide-and-graze policy, the 'who-eats-the-max-eggs' contest - all that flashed across my mind.

It all started one day when two people decided to eat an omlette at midnight. It didn't take long before the rest of us caught up with the trend. What started with an omlette, went one step further to a dosa, then came the other items and there was no turning back from then on!

The place was more moon-lit than man-lit. Passing buses would remind us of our trips to home. The chat usually revolved around classroom fun - a great Prof who drew complex circuits in air and expected us to solve 'simble' problems,  a stupid lecturer who was a self-claimed intellectual, and things like that.

Once done, we usually walk back with our cycles, singing away to glory. (If we were singing in any other place, I'm sure some do-gooders would have offered us some coins.) Octa, in all its splendor would invite us in for a quick email-check. The subdued noise from Agate would remind us of something from the past year to laugh about. After crossing the typically quiet Coral, we head back to our abode.
